What you’ll need:
  • Peekaboo Purse Pattern
  • Flap Lining cut and snap applied
  • Flap Lining interfacing and foam cut for the front of the flap
  • Flap Outer Piece – B cut out
  • Cut 2 Flap Outer A
  • Cut 2 Flap Outer C
  • 2 zipper tab cut 1″ x 2″ (cm x cm)
  • 7″ zipper (6″ will also work)

Supplies needed - Peekaboo Pocket Hack - Andrie Designs

Prep one Flap Outer A as per the pattern. Leave the second Flap Outer A as is. For both Flap Outer C mark a 1/4″ (0.6cm) seam allowance along the curve.

Place your zipper tab at the end of your zipper ad sew on with a 1/2″ (1.3cm) seam allowance. Fold back so the wrong sides are facing and top stitch with a 1/8″ (0.3cm) seam allowance.

Place your zipper right side facing along the Flap Outer C that will be seen on the outside, along the seam allowance you drew. The zipper tab will butt up with the very bottom of the curve. Baste in place with a 1/8″ (0.3cm) seam allowance.

Flip the piece over and draw a 1/2″ (1.3cm) at the top above the zipper and at the bottom where the zipper tab is.

Pin Flap Outer A that was not folded to the back of the zipper and sew in place using a 1/2″ (1.3cm) seam allowance. Clip the curve using pinking shears or clip along the cutting every 1/4″ (0.6cm) and only 1/4″ (0.6cm) deep.

Fold back away from the zipper and press. Top stitch from top to bottom using a 1/8″ (0.3cm) seam allowance.

Place the other side of the zipper onto the unused Flap Outer C. The wrong side of the zipper will be on the right side of the Flap Outer C. Pin along your drawn line. Stitch in place using a 1/4″ (0.6cm) seam allowance. Clip seam along the curve.

Lay the zipper pocket so all the layers are together and the zipper’s raw edge is hidden.

Using the Flap Template as your guide, place Flap Outer B in place. Place the Flap Outer C onto the interfacing along the guideline. Open up the zipper and fuse the lining panel in place until the zipper tab is. (This will be the side that has NOT been topstitched yet)

Stitch in place with a 1/8″ (0.3cm) seam allowance all the way to the zipper tab. (Image B) Also, do a line of stitches right ON the zipper along the edge of the fabric. (Image A)

Fold up the Flap Outer C pocket and pin it in place. Fuse Flap Outer A in place and clip (or fuse) onto the foam as per Step 5 in the pattern.

Topstitch Flap Outer A in place, moving the zipper tab slightly so you can do a couple of stitches under it.

Top stitch the bottom edge of Flap Outer C ONLY along the bottom where the zipper tab is and along the stitching you have already done.
