Happy New Year everyone!!! To kick 2016 off, I’ve joined forces with some of the other AH-mazing contributors from Issue 9 of One Thimble, digital sewing magazine, to bring you this exciting little blog tour through some of the patterns included in the issue. I chose to use the Cheeky Monkey Softie pattern to make a gorgeous little cheeky monkey for a very special little girl for her upcoming birthday.
If you’re yet to grab your own copy of this fantastic digital sewing magazine, or would like to purchase the pattern as a stand alone PDF, you can find Issue 9 here and the Cheeky Monkey Softie pattern here.
Like most projects, choosing the perfect fabric colours and textures was probably more time consuming than actually making the monkey itself! I ended up going with a beautifully bright pink fleece for the body and coordinating pink and purple felt for the hands, feet and muzzle etc. I also chose this gorgeous purple spot tulle for the skirt and up-cycled some spare buttons for the earrings and necklace. So pretty!!!
The lovely little lady I made this monkey for is a real girly girl. She loves to dress up, loves wearing skirts and high heels, loves her bling including necklaces and clip on earrings, and just lights up a room wherever she goes! And all this at the tender age of just three years old! However, all these beautiful characteristics gave me a lot of room to ‘play’ with this monkey and boy did I have fun creating the ultimate girly girl monkey!!!
Once I got it all cut out, it was on to the fun part – sewing it all together! First up – some cute little arms and legs…
And then it was on to the body, and attaching the arms and legs to the body…
Next I put the head together (though at this stage it looked a bit creepy, LOL!)…
Finally I attached the head and tail and voila! One semi-complete toy monkey!
After a few final touches, my cheeky monkey softie was complete!
Now on to the super fun part – dressing her up!!! I chose to make her a purple tutu similar to the pattern included in the magazine (except I chose to use an elastic band instead of ribbon) using some gorgeous purple spotty tulle I found at my local Spotlight store. I also made her a button necklace and stitched button earrings on too. What do you think? Girly enough for my girly girl recipient…?
I am thrilled with how my cheeky monkey turned out! The pattern was super easy to follow, had wonderfully clear photos and lots of little tips throughout to make sewing the fleece and assembling it a breeze!
And the best part – the birthday girl LOVED it!!!! Win!!!
